Äkkigalleria is an artist-run, non-profit, nomadic exhibition space that appears spontaneously when appropriate locations become available. Our intention is to provide a rent-free exhibition space for local and international artists to show new work. Äkkigalleria was established in 2009, out of the necessity to mobilize visual arts into happenings and events. We strive to promote creative risk taking, to find new and imaginative ways of sharing art with the public and to bring art to different public spheres by usurping existing spaces.

Professional artists are invited to leave an artistic statement and photos of their recent work at the email address indicated below. Äkkigalleria is also interested in cooperating with real-estate agents, building managers and the landlords of Jyväskylä, in order to negotiate short-term use (the length of an exhibition can range from 1 day up to 2 weeks) of vacant storefronts.
