The Forbidden Zone, November 2006.
The Forbidden Zone 2006, consists of two "car drawings" and a series of photographs made in a South African Combi/Taxi. The original images are roughly A5, or half the usual size. They are made on a smaller sized paper because of the tightly packed seating situation in such a taxi. The drawings map two taxi routes going from the main taxi rank (silmilar to a bus depot) in downtown Johannesburg northbound through Hillbrow and then back. Hillbrow was the one specific area that residency artists (and specifically the pale skinned visitors) were instructed to avoid.
This project was made in the context of an artist residency with The Bag Factory Artist's Studios in October-December 2006.
